The Spruce Goose Basingstoke restaurant Beefeater

Welcome to the Spruce Goose Beefeater, the number one spot for top quality steaks, pub classics and great drinks in Basingstoke. Whether you’re looking for a big breakfast to set you up for the day or a relaxing dinner after exploring Hampshire, we’re the place to be.

Our team
We have an award-winning team who’ll spruce up any meal with their fantastic service and attention to detail. Our team are all locals who have been with us for years, including our fantastic kitchen manager, Paul Lumley, who has been cooking the best meals for all our guests for over 20 years! If you have any questions about Basingstoke or you’re looking for places to visit after your meal, our friendly team are the best people to talk to.

We’ve partnered with Dove House School Academy, a local specialist school that supports children with learning difficulties. We give practical help, training and development to students interested in a career in hospitality.

Our location
Our namesake, the Spruce Goose, was a legendary Howard Hughes H-4 Hercules aircraft built in 1946. While our restaurant isn’t quite as old as that, we’ve been flying high since 1985 and we’ve been serving the best quality dinners, hosting nights out and been a welcoming spot for the whole community for over 35 years.

We’re a big restaurant with 200 seats, a large 200-seater pub garden with decking and a comfy bar complete with a warm fireplace and BT Sports on the screens. We’ve split our restaurant across three levels. Generally, we try and keep the bar area a more relaxed, low-key space for chilling out. We usually reserve our upper floors for business meetings and other gatherings. Our ground and mid-levels tend to be a bit busier, which is where we save space for parties, buffets and family meals.

We have a lot of room but we’re a popular spot – it always pays to book ahead, especially if you’re thinking of planning an event with us.

Make sure to take a look at our offers page for all our latest deals and promotions.

Why we love Basingstoke
There’s so much to do in this beautiful part of Hampshire, no matter what kind of trip you’re after! We’re in the heart of Jane Austen country, which means trips to manors, parks and much more. Festival Mall Shopping Centre is only a mile away with all your high street favourites, and we’re only a 45-minute drive away from amazing beaches at Southampton and Portsmouth.

Closer to home, the Spruce Goose is only down the street from a leisure centre with indoor sky diving, a bowling alley, aqua arena, gym, ice skating rink and a large bingo hall. There’s also a cinema and plenty of other shops – you couldn’t ask for a better spot for things to do before a meal.

We’re also great halfway stop for a bite to eat if you’re on the way to Gatwick Airport, Cornwall or headed to the seaside. Plus, we’re only a five-minute drive away from Basingstoke Town Centre itself.

Our 8oz fillet steak is our most lean and tender cut, and a real favourite with our guests! Aged for a minimum of 30 days, packed with flavour and served with chunky triple cooked chips, crispy flat mushrooms, juicy grilled tomatoes and peppercorn sauce, we can’t recommend it enough. Add extras like our free 1974 BBQ Glaze for even more flavour!

At the Spruce Goose our Sunday lunch is second to none. With our Sunday roasts you can choose from our specialty roast sirloin of beef, rump of lamb, half-roast chicken or butternut squash & ale pie, served with all the trimmings and our signature red wine gravy. You also get unlimited roast potatoes and other delicious extras.

It’s got to be the Premier Inn Breakfast, which we serve at the Spruce Goose. An unlimited selection of the best of an English breakfast. That’s bacon, eggs cooked just how you like them, hash browns, black pudding, toast and plenty more with free tea and coffee.

We have over 200 seats in our outdoor pub garden, complete with decking, parasols and everything else you need to enjoy a meal or a drink outside.

We can only allow guide dogs inside our restaurant building itself. But dogs are very welcome in our large outdoor area, and it’s always a treat for us when guests bring them along!

Yes, we cater for parties for up to 80 people. We can offer plated or buffet style food, depending on our availability. If you’re planning an event, we’d love to host – just get in touch! We can also host parties for kids starting from £6 for a three-course meal and drink.
