We’re a steakhouse that’s full of character, serving top quality steaks and traditional pub classics from our charming thatched roof restaurant. We have the scenic New Forest on our doorstep, and we’re close to great days out at Peppa Pig World, Monkey World and on Dorset’s award-winning coastline. Whether you’re in the mood for a quick bite to eat or you’re after a full course steak meal, join us at the Smugglers Haunt for some hauntingly great times.

Our team
We’re lucky to have such a dedicated team who really care about making sure your meal is the best it can be. Our team have a brilliant range of experience – we have all the energy of people just starting their careers and people who have been with us for years, all working together to provide a brilliant atmosphere while you enjoy your next meal out.

We’re proud to be in such a historic and beautiful place, and we like to do our bit for the community we’re part of. We do a lot of volunteering and support for local charities in the area.

Our location
The Smugglers Haunt was originally just two cottages with thatched roofs that were put together. No ghosts, no late-night smuggling runs in the night – just two quaint cottages in the forest. After a major fire in 1964, the premises were bought by Beefeater and converted into a restaurant in 1974. The result? A unique and relaxed place everyone can enjoy with scenic views and great links on to the coast.

Our restaurant has a welcoming pub area, lovely outdoor seating that’s perfect for admiring the view and full disabled access.

Make sure to take a look at our offers page for all our latest deals and promotions.

Why we love Dorset
Dorset is probably most well-known for its amazing coastal views and great beaches, but there’s plenty to see a little further inland too.

At the Smugglers Haunt we’re only a 10-minute drive away from the Tree Top Trails at Moors Valley Country Park, a great day out exploring the forests and really getting closer to nature – made all the better with a quick bite to eat with us first. If you’re on a family trip in the area you’re spoiled for choice, we’re only a 30-minute drive away from Peppa Pig World and Monkey World, both guaranteed to make your kids’ day.

We’ve also got the New Forest right on our doorstep, so if you’re planning a long stroll through the forest whether its summer or winter, our restaurant is a comfy spot to fill up on a delicious full English breakfast before you head off.

But of course, if you’re off for a beach day we’re only a 25-minute drive from the Sandbanks Beach in Poole and Bournemouth Beach. Dorset’s coast is famous for a good reason, and there’s nothing better than a nice snooze next to the sea after a plate of delicious fish and chips with us.

Frequently asked questions

You can’t beat a Beefeater steak. Our 8oz fillet steak is one of our most popular dishes. Like all our steaks, it’s aged for a minimum of 30 days, grilled to perfection, packed with flavour and served with chunky triple cooked chips, crispy flat mushroom, juicy grilled tomatoes and peppercorn sauce. Our kitchen manager recommends going medium rare for the most flavour and rounding off dinner with a delicious dinner with a triple chocolate brownie for dessert.

We do the best Sunday lunch at the Smugglers Haunt. With our Sunday roasts you can choose from our specialty roast sirloin of beef, rump of lamb, half-roast chicken or butternut squash & ale pie, served with all the trimmings and our signature red wine gravy. You also get unlimited roast potatoes and other delicious extras.

It’s got to be the Premier Inn Breakfast, which we serve at the Smugglers Haunt Beefeater. An unlimited selection of the best of an English breakfast. That’s bacon, eggs cooked just how you like them, hash browns, black pudding, toast and plenty more with free tea and coffee.

Let us take the hassle out of your next family meal out. We’ve got a kids’ menu that always hits the spot, our team are great with children and there’s so many amazing places to explore nearby you couldn’t pick a better place for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
