The Harbour Lights Beefeater grill restaurant in Portsmouth

Hello and welcome to the Harbour Lights Beefeater, we’re a fantastic grill steakhouse and family friendly restaurant in Portsmouth. As a Beefeater restaurant, we’ve been grilling great steak for years and we’re famous for our friendly service, modern and comfortable interior and amazing grilled dishes – we serve the best fillet steak in Portsmouth!

Our team

Our team are passionate about making sure all our guests have an awesome time with us. From our chefs to our serving team, everyone’s committed to going the extra mile to make sure you leave with a smile. We’ve got a brilliant mix of experience and energy, in fact one of our longest serving team members celebrated their 35-year anniversary recently!

We also care about doing our bit for the community. We make donations to local food banks in Portsmouth, and we hold raffles and other events to fundraise for our charity partners, Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.

Our location

The Harbour Lights was built in the 1930s and has always been a restaurant where the whole community could come together. In 1937, songwriter Jimmy Kennedy wrote the song "Harbour Lights" - he used to travel to see his sweetheart in Portsmouth when he saw our sign, he knew he was close. The song has been covered by many artists, most famously Elvis and we have a blue plaque on the front of the building to mark it.

But we’re more than just a place Elvis sang about. We’re a modern restaurant with everything you need for a fantastic meal out, including a spacious dining area with booths, a roomy bar with a great atmosphere and a pub garden for eating out in the sun.

We also have a large area at the back of the restaurant for events, meetings and parties. We can accommodate pretty much any event – just let us know in advance!

We’re an accessible restaurant with full access for wheelchairs throughout, baby changing facilities and free parking for our guests next door. There’s also free Wi-Fi throughout our restaurant.

Make sure to take a look at our offers page for all our latest deals and promotions.

Why we love Portsmouth

At the Harbour Lights we’re in the best spot to explore Portsmouth, we’re only 10 minutes away from the continental ferry port, with daily routes to France and Spain. We’re also close to ferries to the Isle of Wight. Don’t sail on an empty stomach though, make sure to stop by for a delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner with us first.

A visit to Portsmouth isn’t complete without stopping by its historic waterfront, which includes Portsmouth Dockyard and famous ships like the HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and the Mary Rose - you might also see the HMS Queen Elizabeth & HMS Prince of Wales if they’re in port.

If you’re in Portsmouth for the shopping, you’re in luck! The Gunwharf Keys has some excellent outlet shops, and it’s next to Spinnaker Tower with an observation deck and glass floor for any daredevils!

Finally, Portsmouth has a ton of brilliant beaches. Southsea seafront has two piers and the classic British seaside experience with safe swimming beaches, an aquarium, arcades and the wonderful D-Day Museum. And it’s all so close to us at the Harbour Lights Beefeater!

Frequently asked questions

Our steaks are always popular! Our thick, 10oz ribeye steaks are one of our tastiest cuts and, like all our steaks, they’re aged for a minimum of 30 days, grilled to perfection, packed with flavour and served with chunky triple cooked chips, crispy flat mushroom, juicy grilled tomatoes and peppercorn sauce.

People love our mixed grills too. We recommend upgrading to a juicy 4oz sirloin steak, succulent chicken breast, 5oz gammon steak and pork sausages, served with half a slow roasted tomato, grilled flat cap mushroom, fried egg, crispy beer-battered onion rings and triple-cooked chips.

You can’t beat our Sunday lunches here at the Harbour Lights Beefeater. With our Sunday roasts you can choose from our specialty roast sirloin of beef, rump of lamb, half-roast chicken or butternut squash & ale pie, served with all the trimmings and our signature red wine gravy. You also get unlimited roast potatoes and other delicious extras.

Guests at our restaurant can park for free, but please register your vehicle with us at reception.

It’s got to be the Premier Inn Breakfast, which we serve at the Harbour Lights Beefeater. An unlimited selection of the best of an English breakfast. That’s bacon, eggs cooked just how you like them, hash browns, black pudding, toast and plenty more with free tea and coffee.

We’re totally family friendly and we can make your next meal out hassle-free. Ours kids’ menu is full of dishes your children will love and our team are great with kids. Best of all, up to two kids can eat breakfast for free when an adult orders a Premier Inn Breakfast!

From mid-week meals to special occasions, we welcome all kinds of group bookings at the Harbour Lights Beefeater. You can book tables for up to 16 people online through our website, or call us on 02392 321 122 to find out more about Beefeater group bookings in Portsmouth. If you’re booking for a group larger than 16, we can still host you – just give us a call or select ‘other’ as the number of guests you want to book for on our booking page to let us know.

Yes, we have a pub garden with plenty of benches for a nice drink or lunch in the sun!

If we have space, we’ll always try and find a table for you. But we recommend booking ahead, especially at the weekend when we’re at our busiest
